Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): About 300 women from different walks of life performed the ghoomar dance to bring Rajasthani folk dance to life at the Bhojpur club on Saturday.
It was part of an event, Ghoome Re Ghoomar: A Cultural Evening Dedicated to Rajasthani Folk Culture, organized by Siya Cultural And Welfare Society, Bhopal.
Most of the women are doctors who participated in it. These are Dr Shruti Shah, Dr Tripti Saxena, Dr Shusmita Sharma, Dr Monika Singh, Dr Meenal Pathak, Dr Anupa Walia, Dr Vandna Agrawal and Dr Alkanj.
Dressed in colorful traditional clothing and jewelry, women in the 8-65 age group performed different types of Ghoomar dance including Deep, Dhol – Thali, Shastra, Chirmi, Panihari, which left the audience spellbound. They also danced to songs of Ghoomar presented by Karni Musical Group from Rajasthan. The Kalbeliya dance was performed by schoolgirls (8-16 years old).
The head of the company, Shiva Raje Sisodia, said they have been holding the Ghoome re Ghoomar festival for 4 years to revive the dance form. Young children get involved so that they learn this traditional dance. This was the fifth edition of the show.
Simran Iqbal Singh Bains, wife of Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, was the main guest of the event.
