Zee TV’s flagship reality show, Dance India Dance, is back on TV screens with a makeover. The show was revamped as Dance India Dance: Battle of Champions in which the creators divided the contestants into four different areas and pitted them against each other. The show will also mark Bollywood diva Kareena Kapoor Khan’s debut on television. The first episode aired tonight and in case you missed, we watched the first episode and here’s what we think of the episode.
A quick review:
The show begins with the presentation of the judges of the show. It starts with Bosco’s dance on Apna Time Aayega and Mere Gully Mein. Soon Raftaar walks on stage in a cage and dances to Dhakkad and Baby Marwake Maanegi (his two songs). And finally, the diva Kareena enters on Tareefan. She is seen wearing a shimmering red dress. She squeezes one leg over High heel and Chammak Challo. Show host and Kundali actor Bhagya Dheeraj Dhoopar walks in wearing a black tuxedo. At the start of the series, Kareena admits, “This is the biggest job for me.” Bosco also announces that he will give one of the candidates a chance in his film.
As the series progresses, contestant Anju reminds Kareena of her sister Karishma Kapoor. Additionally, to another contestant, Mansi, who danced on Ghar More Pardesia Kareena, said: “You were much better than Alia (Bhatt).” Raftaar asks Bosco and Kareena to dance on Mauja Hi Mauja. Bosco shares an anecdote about how sets and costumes weren’t ready until the last moment. The trio then dance to the iconic number.
Kareena takes a selfie with one of the contestants, Hardik Rawat, which becomes one of the highlights of the episode. Kareena also relates that one of the dance performances she would like to show Taimur would be Nritya Nevaidya’s group act.
It goes without saying that one of the highlights of the show is Kareena Kapoor Khan. Its glow ignites the whole spectacle. Hardik Rawat, member of The Kings who won The World of Dance, gave one of the best performances of the episode. Another group act that caught our attention is Nritya Nevaidya. The fact that creators value the indigenous dance form so much is truly commendable.
What is not:
Dheeraj Dhoopar has gone to great lengths, however, he is unable to grab our attention and our TV screens as a show host. The actor is surely opposed to Jay Bhanushali and Maniesh Paul. Kareena, on the other hand, always seemed to be a guest of the show and not a judge. However, we’ll give it the benefit of the doubt since this is the first episode.
The show was a pretty decent watch in the first episode. You will be really looking forward to seeing the second one.
