Old GUNS N ‘ROSES and current SIXX: AM guitarist DJ Ashba performed her first headlining show as a solo performer – under the ASHBA banner – last night (Friday, November 12) at Green Bay, the Epic Event Center in Wisconsin.

ASHBA‘S sound sees the 48 year old guitarist blending hard rock and electronic influences to produce a genre he has dubbed “GDM” or “guitar dance music”.

“There is a huge fan overlap between rock and electronic music” Ashba Recount EDM.com. “I hate putting music into genres because I feel like it’s limiting. I wanted to take what I’m doing and put it into the electronic world and put my own twist on it.”

“I have always been inspired by different styles of music,” he continued. “I was trying to find something that would not only inspire me, but a whole new generation of kids to learn an instrument.”

Earlier this month, Ashba released the official music video for their new single, “Bella Ciao”. Produced by Ashba, the reimagined track gives a modern EDM-focused makeover to classic Italian folk, complemented by DJthe signature guitar work of. The new tagged single Ashbathe first release of 2021 and followed a series of tracks released in late 2020 until Edgeout records/UMG/UMe, including “Hypnotic”, “Let’s go dancing” and “A Christmas storm”.

Last December, Ashba Recount “The Mark and HooGie Show” that he was not afraid of being pushed back by his rock fans on the musical direction of his new company: “Honestly, I am at a stage in my career where I could not care less”, he declared . “I don’t care. If people don’t like it, kiss my ass. Go listen SIXX: AM If what I’m doing right now isn’t rock enough, I have a rock band. They can go listen to that then.

“My fan base, thank goodness, has been, throughout my career, very, very tolerant,” he continued. “They know me, they know that I always try to surpass myself as an artist outside the box.

“If I had to live in this box, I would honestly prefer not to play music. Playing music is an art form, and if I can’t really be an artist and be true to what there is to it? inside – whatever it is keeps me going… I have to stay inspired. You can only write a limited number of three chord rock songs. So for me it’s something I do more for myself, and I kind of feel like I’ve won at this point in my career, and I’m just having fun.

“Surprisingly… It was weird. I totally expected all my fans to hate this – just don’t get it,” Ashba added. “Because I’m going really, really deep into EDM – I stayed very, very true to the EDM sound – and I really thought they were going to hate it, and I was okay with that. Because in my mind, I’m writing this for EDM, the young people who go to these festivals. It’s festival music in its own right. And amazingly, I got no repel. My rock fans were really, really freaking out, which freaked me out a bit. I expected them to either really don’t get it or put it aside. But they were only support. I am very grateful that they gave him a chance. “

ASHBA‘s “Let’s go dancing” single featured a guest appearance by Jacques Michel, co-founder and singer of SIXX: AM, that he and DJ formed with Nikki sixx (MOTLEY CRUE).

Ashba said to Las Vegas Review about the musical approach to his new effort: “I would go to a lot of EDM concerts, and their shows are so over the top and, you know, all these young kids are going crazy, right?” And the only thing I have is, “I noticed that… it’s missing the guitar, you know, and I saw an opportunity, like five years ago, saying,” If I could take what I’m doing. and somehow inject it into this world ”. A lot of kids aren’t exposed to a lot of guitar in this world. “

Even if Ashba started working on the project in collaboration with Michael – under the name of the group PYROMANTIC – he has since become a Ashba solo business, with Michael announcing in 2018 that he was withdrawing from the group.
